OUR STORY

The Little People was founded in 2017 by Hannah and Paul, who were inspired to open the nursery after facing the high cost of childcare for their son, Alfie. Their vision was simple: to provide affordable, high-quality childcare for local families—helping parents return to work without the financial strain of expensive fees.

Our Growth
After six amazing years at our original Bowfell Road location—and with our waiting list growing—we knew it was time to expand. In June 2023, we proudly opened our second nursery on George Street, marking a new chapter in The Little People story. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and become a trusted name in childcare for families across the area.
Our reputation is built on strong relationships with parents and carers, and our commitment to seeing every child as an individual. At The Little People, we celebrate what makes each child unique—it’s truly “the place where everyone belongs, and differences shine.”

How we work

How do you teach my child? Each child within our setting has a key worker who will work with, and focus on your child's learning each month. They will note down observations, link this to a learning step in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, plan activities to help achieve the learning objective and evaluate the performance and any further help your child may require. Every four months we will then complete a Progress So Far, assessing the work they have undertaken and measuring them up against the different learning aspects within the EYFS. We will invite you in for a short meeting about how your child is coping and performing, work we have undertaken and will continue to work on during the next four months, work you can do with them at home to help advance their learning and any questions or concerns you may have.

What are the learning categories within the EYFS? There are seven learning categories within the EYFS that we will work on with your little people. These are communication and language; physical development; mathematics; literacy; understanding of the world; personal, social and emotional development; and expressive arts and design. We undertake an array of activities throughout the month to further develop your little ones within each of these categories alongside the work their key worker will perform.

How will I get information such as invoices? We utilise a system called Famly, where parents can access their invoices as well as other important information. As parents and staff become more familiar with the system, we will begin to move our observations and evaluations online so parents can access and review the work their child is doing at pre-school. Here you can also let us know if your child won't be in, or request extra days. We also utilise Famly to provide updates for parents, send out newsletters and showcase upcoming events.

How does the food work? We do things a little differently to other pre-schools or nurseries, to prepare your little people for school. We ask your child brings a lunchbox to pre-school, and we will provide breakfast up to 9am and dinner at 3:30pm. They have lunch at 11:30am and we also provide a healthy snack at 1pm.

Anything else I need to know? We ask that every parent brings suitable clothing for the weather. If it's sunny, bring a sun hat and sun cream. We do have limited spares if the situation arises. We also ask during winter months your child brings wellies, hats, gloves, scarves and thick coats so they can still get exercise during the colder snaps. Each child is provided with a bag for nursery to keep these in, and we also ask for spare clothes in case your little people get wet or have accidents.
